The fear of being an uncool braailess South African can be daunting. Don’t fear, here is a solution!
A terracotta flowerpot makes the perfect vessel for your braai. The terracotta holds in the heat while insulating the outside. Try to get a pot big enough to fit a round Weber braai grill, you can buy this off the shelf. Alternatively you can place a rectangular grill on top. When you buy your pot, buy two saucers. When you are done cooking on your flower pot, place the second saucer on top of the pot to extinguish the fire. Do not pour water onto the fire to extinguish it. The sudden shock of cold can break the pot.
Place your flowerpot onto a saucer. Fill the pot half full with sand (you can steal this from a nearby building site). The sand will insulates the bottom of the pot from the heat. The vessel, however, will still become incredibly hot. Do not touch it, I’m serious…don’t!
Now place the Charcoal briquettes inside and light your fire! Lekkkerrr man!
